             Welcome to Girls Club of Los Angeles

            The Girls Club of Los Angeles (GCLA) is a non-profit agency that meets the needs of underprivileged and at-risk children, youth and their families living in South Los Angeles.
 
        
 
 GCLA is an advocate and community change agent working to provide children, youth and families with the
 skills overcome the challenges they face.
            
Our Mission is to enrich the lives of low income children, youth and families through early education, youth       development and community outreach, which contribute to self sufficient, stable and productive individuals.
         
 To date, GCLA has served over 75,000 children, youth, and their families through
  • Early Care and Education
  • Youth Development
  • Community Development
  • Resources and Referrals

GCLA strives to meet the following outcomes for children, youth, and their families:

  • Ongoing relationships with caring adults
  • Safe places with structured activities
  • Access to services that promote physical well-being and positive mental health
  • Opportunities to build skills and competencies
  • Opportunities to learn about and explore their relationship with the community

               Week of the Young Child™ is held each year to honor young children and thank teachers and all
               those who make a difference in young children's lives.The theme for WOYC 2013 is:
               Early Years Are Learning Years

                             April 14-20th Week of the Young Child Years Are Learning Years

                                   Celebrating the Week of the Young Child Activities

 

               Monday: Children and parents write thank you notes or cards to their child's teachers.
  

               Tuesday: Invite guests to the classroom to read to the children. Parent's friends or relatives come to
               the center to read to their child.   

 

               Wednesday: Celebrate a "Stuffed Animal/Toy" Day. Invite everyone to bring his/her own special
               animal/toy in to share with the class.

 
               Thursday: Make a poster or mural of classroom activities that support the Week of the Young Child theme.
 
               Friday: Get Moving Celebration!!!! Children, teachers, and parents will integrate "active time" into their day.
               Children will watch "The Get Healthy Now on DVD.
